    Infant vitamin drops

Hi! My LO is currently 8 weeks old and I am breastfeeding. I want to start vitamin D3 and iron drops for her. Any suggestions on a good brand and where I can get it??

Unless medically indicated & supervised I would suggest not introducing iron to your baby. Babies are born with higher levels of iron and sustain these levels for at least 6 months. Breast milk iron levels are low but it is easily absorbed by high levels of lactose & Vitamin C in breast milk. Too high a level of iron can be unsafe.
Vitamin D is more complex. The levels of Vit D in your milk can be influenced by your intake of Vit D. I would discuss this with your GP or pediatrician

The AAP recommends a daily intake of 400IU of vitamin D per day for breastfed infants from the first days of life to prevent rickets. Human milk contains a concentration of 25IU or less of vit D per liter. Both my paeds for my 2 LOs have given me polyvitamin drops (1ml per day). The brand is RxChoice.

And yes, it's more for the vit D. I don't think iron deficiency
is a concern. There is no iron in these drops.

My daughter (now 21 months) was in NICU when she was born and they give all the babies in there the Polyvitamin RxChoice vitamins that Gemma mentioned. She was prescribed it when she came home and has been taking it since birth. She also has been taking an iron supplement also since she was born. I don't think it's "necessary" but since we were given them virtually for free at the public hospital, I figured why not, it's not going to harm her. I wouldn't bother buying them for babies under 1 though...

The iron that the public hospital here uses is called Ferrum Hausmann - brand Vitor
