Hi Mummymoo and Redestiny, so by steamer I take it you mean this? Presumably, you hover the iron bit over the clothes whilst releasing steam.
Having never used such a thing before, is a basic one like this one okay, or is it better to go for a much better quality one like the one above. I have no idea how much performance / function varies with these things and there are some massive price differences...

Get the steamer with vertical steaming function. Mine has a rod you can hang your outfit on (on a hanger) - just like you see shop assistants using. It's great! BTW, my helpers iron everything too, despite encouragement not to.

Liquorice, I don't have either of those. I bought a cheap one from GOD (400-500$ a few years back), the bit that gets applied to the clothes is on the shape of the head of a vacuum cleaner (the bit you put on the floor).

Thanks Portia / Mummymoo, I know which one you're talking about. Will try this and see if the fate of my clothes is a happier one!

If you can afford it, just send your ironing out to have someone else do it. Or, do it all yourself. I hate ironing, personally and thankfully most of our clothes don't require it but burning clothes is just not a good option.
