Ways to stay social during first trimester
Now I'm pregnant its become more aparent that my life here used to be all about alcohol related socialising, drinks with friends after work, big Friday nights, dinners with groups of friends, champagne brunches....it was work hard play hard. Of course things have totally changed, which I am over the moon about! However during this period where I don't want to tell people I'm running out of excuses to avoid these situations and the pregnancy interrogation! How does everyone do it here?

Dillon, I know exactly what you mean! I was so shocked when I realized my social life revolved mostly around alcohol! Hahaha!!!! I told friends I was on a detox, not feeling well and just fancied a night in! Try to organize things for Saturday mornings... Things to look forward to - things that will keep you busy over weekends. Hikes are great if your into that, trips to different places around HK, things that you haven't seen yet (if your an xpat). Congratulations on your pregnancy! How far along are you?

TNJ thank god I'm not alone on this. I had to go out for a birthday meal 5 weeks ago and immediately 4 people I know asked why I wasn't drinking and if I was pregnant within about 1 minute of seeing me!
I'm almost 11 weeks now. I'd love to tell friends here but my parents don't know yet and we want to tell them face to face in just over a week in the uk. I'd hate for them to find out from a Facebook post. We probably should have just told them as the secret is becoming a real burden but the idea of telling them face to face was so so lovely. All the best plans....
Since the dinner above I've been essentially hibernating and aparently I've been on a detox since January haha so that excuse is getting lame. Breakfast or lunches are good ideas as are hikes, thanks. I do like hiking and the weather is good for it at the moment (when it's not raining).

Oh don't worry! I bet there's loads of mums to be that have had the same problem. As soon as everyone knows it's much easier.
I understand you want to tell your parents, I wanted the same! The first trimester is always the hardest especially weening yourself away from nights out etc all at once.

If you still need to go out to those social occasions you can always say that you have been to the doctor and were prescribed antibiotics so that is why you can't drink!
Congratulations on your pregnancy!
