    1 PRC, 1 non-Chinese national question

I have a Chinese friend (PRC national) with his Thai wife (marriage is registered in China, but not Thailand) and they're contemplating on giving birth in either of the two SARs. Would the child be eligible for an ID?

Yes would be eligible for hkid. I believe Macau has different rules set up. Regardless it would be quite difficult for your friend to give birth in hk as a mainland Chinese.

The wife could go alone (HK is visa-free for Thais) and present the marriage certificate after giving birth. How is Macau different?
