Drop-off Daycare?
Hello Ladies, as I don´t like the idea that much to let my 18 month old boy be educated by an untrained helper ... are there any daycares / nurseries or childcare centers for younger infants where I can drop him off for 2 -3 hours around Hong Kong? Like it is common in Europe. Does anybody know something about it? TIA, Denise

i would love for the same thing to start but unfortunately there aren't any in Hongkong that I know of.... Have researched this far and wide but no hope - hongkong is totally dependent upon untrained helpers. If you do find something let me know too... I have a 5yr old and expecting a newborn in september.

There are 'schools' that offer drop off classes from 2 years old.
Plenty of more local schools (need to be 2yrs before 1st sept to start the nursery academic year from my understanding) and international schools (Tutortime, Woodlands, DMK) run these classes and they are usually 2-3 hours long. International schools will be more flexible about when in the year your child can start but they may also have a waitlist.

Ok good to know that I am not alone :-) most of the playgroup starts from 2yr and only for 2-3 hours. Nothing comparable to the german nurseries or french creche unfortunately ...
I am also due in September ;-) Where are you living?

Hi thanks for starting this thread. I have the same question. My son is 19 month old and the second one is due in August. We live in London now where my son gets dropped off at 8am and picked up at 6pm at a nearby nursery. It looks like it will become a luxury once we have moved to HK in a couple of weeks time..
Is getting a helper the only solution for mums having more than one child? Once you drop off your 2-yr-old, do you have to stay with him/her?

for a 2 yr old - no you dont need to stay - many kindergartens offer a 3 hour pre-k class where they are with other children. I did that with my daughter - it cost me HKD 6000 a month! but I still preferred it to leaving her home with a helper. 7 yrs now in hongkong and I still cant get used to this idea of having just 1 person take care of my child - what if she forgets to feed.. what if shes just sitting and looking at her phone all day.. I've seen enough helpers do that and I feel horrid.

HK$6000 for three hours a day five days a week? That's not cheap at all. We live in London and it only costs £54 a day and children get four meals etc.
I do agree with you and I would feel better too leaving my child to trained nursery teachers and the child also socialise with other children.
Is HK$6000 a normal price range, or did you opt an expensive one?
