When did you give first solid?!
Hey all,
just wanted to hear from all experience mums out there! I am getting all different stories and advice.
How many months did you give your baby first solid?
What did you give?
Thanks!

Six months is the WHO recommendation I think (and was when I started) but some start earlier of they feel their baby is ready.

Hi we started at 5.5 months with brown rice cereal. We followed Gina Ford s book on weaning. She introduced a new food every 3 days so you can observe allergies. We also introduced pears early which helped with constipation. New Foods were introduced at lunch only.
I would recommend keeping a food journal. We introduced fresh milk also when my guy was about 18 months. We didn't stick to 1 brand n bought whatever was available. My son broke out in a rash with one particular brand. However it took me a couple weeks to figure out it was the milk n poor guy was miserable.

Here's what we did:
From 6-12mths a baby needs 500-600ml (16-20 oz) of milk. So thats 3-4 feeds of 5-7oz
Here's a feeding plan for 4-5mth old
Day 1-3
7am - breastfeed 6-8 oz
11am breastfeed 6-8 oz + 1tsp of rice cereal mixed with breastmilk
2pm, 6pm, 10pm breastfeed
Day 4-6
7am - breastfeed 6-8 oz
11am breastfeed 6-8 oz and 1 cube of pear/carrot/sweet potatoe puree
2pm, breastfeed 5-7 oz
6pm, breatsfeed +1-2tsp of rice cereal
10pm breastfeed
Every 3 days you introduce a new fruit/veggie at the 11am feed, and then gradually increase the quantity at the 6pm feed, and by the end of the month you should have dropped the 10pm feed.
The trend now is to only introduce veggies first and delay the sweet fruits to later.

Our pediatrician in NY told us every child is different and if they want to eat solids earlier then he/she will let you know as our elder son was doing.
Our 23-month old started organic brown rice cereal at 3-months and we progressed to other fruit and veg purees. We did one new fruit or veg every 2-3 days first, in case of any allergy. This way we could easily isolate/identify it. We introduced in an order like this: sweet potatoes, carrots, pumpkin, butternut squash, peas, spinach, pears, banana, apples, mango, etc.) Then once we knew which fruits and veg were safe then we started blends .
Close to 5-months, our son started to reject all purees and we thought he was sick. Took him to pediatrician, and it turns out that it was just that he really wanted to eat heartier more substantial foods., which our doctor green lit. We started to feed him stews- rice, potatoes, carrots, oxtail, etc. We would make them in a crock pot or pressure cooker. He teethed early and all his teeth broke through sooner than usual so I guess we just have a boy who loves to eat!
