Group B strep positive and delivering at private hospital
Hello all,
My wife recently was tested positive for Group B strep at 35 weeks which means she will be given anti-biotics during her delivery.
I assume the hospital will keep the baby under close monitoring after birth for possible infection. Any ideas how long the baby need to kept under monitoring for if no symptoms? if they see the baby having symptoms of an infection - will he be transferred to the NICU unit in the public hospital?
Just seeing if anyone had experiences with this.
I will give the hospital a call later today to get a definite answer but just wanted to know if anyone else has any experiences.
She will be delivering at the Sanatarium FWIW
Thanks.

Hi,
Hope you got the info you needed from the hospital. I believe your wife will be given the antibiotics during labour and baby should be fine. They probably won't transfer baby to NICU.
However, your Dr may suggest a C-section just to be safe.
