Hi Stars02 - congrats to you! Nice to meet you too.

Happy to meet up for coffee once you're in town and settled. Must be a bit nerve wracking to do this for the first time in a new country. You'll get some good info from the forums on Geobaby although some of the threads are a bit old.

I'm happy to share what I know...which admittedly is not all that much at the moment! Again, I'd suggest going to one of the free sessions at one of the antenatal clinics once you're here. I found they were much more informative on the system then my OB.

    Newbian,

I'm actually going to do the "best of both" package with Annerley but I won't go with the midwife for labour care. Queen Mary's only lets one person be with you for the delivery and of course I want that to be hubby so it seemed a little pointless for us to book the labour care bit. The package covers all the stuff I wanted - antenatal classes, postnatal care etc with trained midwives which is great.

If you ladies are not too squeamish, I've been watching a UK documentary - One Born every minute. I think its a BBC series. They have cameras in the maternity wards of UK hospitals. Pretty interesting stuff but a bit graphic. Interesting to see different birthing options - one lady did hypnobirthing which is also available in HK....I'm not sure it's the way I'd go after seeing the episode!

I went to the free session at Annerley and got some useful info but it was definitely a sales pitch. They have an ideological position that is pro-natural (i.e. no drugs) and pro-public hospital.

I've also confirmed that my insurance doesn't cover Annerley so the Best of Both package wouldn't work financially for us.

I'm seeing the GP this week and will ask for a referral to an OB with a good reputation on vaginal births.

    Hello All,

This is my second pregnancy and EDD is November. The first one ended in miscarriage.. fingers crossed that all goes well this time.

I am still deciding between public vs private route but most like will opt for private pre natal and delivery at public hospital. Let me know if you have got any recommendations for private gynaecologist.

    Thanks

    Hi AK1360 and jh2013!

    Congrats to you both!

AK1360 - fingers crossed for you! My OB is Dr Tracey Yeung of the Hong Kong Reproductive Health Centre based in Central (The Galleria). She speaks good English and the team/nurses are really nice but I think the centre basically specialises in infertility so you'd need to check if they take on normal patients. Dr Yeung did offer to deliver so I'm assuming they can. I think there are quite a few recommendations in the forums too.

Do you know which public hospital you'll go to if you end up going with the public route?
