Oct 2015 Mums
Hi All
I'm a first time mum and due late Oct. Would love to touch base with other mums due around then.
I've just registered for Queen Mary Hospital and have my first appointment scheduled for 6 April at Tsan Yuk Hosptial....fingers crossed it all goes well - the receptionist was a bit confused that I'd given my married name even though I'd updated my HKID card at immigration 4 years ago! Hopefully not a sign of things to come!

Hi MiniB
I'm also pregnant for the first time and due late Oct (EDD Oct 28). I am seeing the GP next week and then OB afterwards once referred. We have health insurance so will probably go for one of the private hospitals.

Congrats Newbian!
Our EDD is 21st Oct. We saw an OB on Tues and could hear the heart beat - so completely amazing! All the best with your doc appointments. Any idea which private hospital you'll go with yet? My sister went to Matilda a few years ago and the rooms there were pretty nice as far as I can remember and she seemed to have a good experience there.
We want to go with the public hospitals as they have a higher percentage of natural births vs C-section but we'll be doing private midwives, antenatal classes and OB check ups.

That's interesting information, thanks! I chatted to a GP last week - went in for a different reason but had gotten a positive test the day before so we briefly discussed pregnancy - and he really pushed for c-section. I told him I wanted natural and he seemed surprised as he said HK women have a clear preference for c-sections. So when I have my appointment next week I am going to say that I need a referral to an OB who is experienced and comfortable with natural.
I don't know the difference between the private hospitals, other than that Matilda is apparently the most expensive. One of my husband's colleagues is having a baby there and they've paid a lot out of pocket above what our insurance covers.

Annerley midwives in central have a free 1 hour workshop every Fri at 1pm. I went last week which is how I found out about the difference between private and public hospitals. Some of the other antenatal places also do a similar free workshop on different days.
I really found it informative so you might want to go to one of them before you pick your OB. Apparently you need to check your OB is registered to the hospital you want to go to.

Thanks MiniB, I had booked onto the Annerley session for tomorrow already! Should be useful information.
It seems Annerley's "Best of Both Worlds" package costs almost $50K anyway if you have the midwife come to the delivery - which I would definitely want. I'm pretty sure our insurance doesn't cover midwives clinics so that would be out of pocket. Private hospital is on the insurance company so cheaper for us to go that way.

Hi MiniB & Newbian, just wanted to introduce myself! This is also my first time and my EDD is at the very beginning of Nov. I'm actually based in the US right now but moving to Hong Kong next week, so will be trying to learn how to navigate a new system very shortly =) Nice to meet you both!
