Domestic Helper
Hi all
I am coming over to Hong Kong in the next few months. Now I was wondering if I will be able to work as a domestic helper being Australian??? I would love to work with kids or be a helper.
If I were to come over on a working holiday visa would this allow me to????
Thanks for the help. If I am allowed to do these things would anyone be interested in having an Australian helper??
Thanks all
sue

Domestic help is so inexpensive here (HK$3300 a month - I don't know what that is in Australian dollars), I doubt you'd be happy making so little and working so many hours.
Why don't you look into teaching English as a tutor? There are all kinds of English tutoring/playgroup chain schools out where I am (Tseun Kwan O) and they probably have a lot more experience than a private person in getting you the right visa for working. It would behoove you to look now because it takes about two months to get a work visa.
No matter what country you are from, you may not work in Hong Kong with a tourist visa. Am I right, Rani?

sueaus,
Are you sure you are looking for a position as Domestic Helper and not just a Nanny? Qualified Nannies can earn close to $20,000/month.
You can't work on a tourist visa, but you can sure look for work while you're here. I would contact the Mid-Wives listed in our directory as they may be able to help, and you could also place an ad in the newspapers. Have seen ads on occassion.
Best of luck!
