Premature Baby
I am moving back to Hong Kong at the beginning of next year and wanted to know which hospitals have special care nurseries for premature babies? Has anyone had a premmie in Hong Kong, if so your recommendations/tips would be really useful?

Sara the Government Hospitals have the best neo-natal intensive care in HK.
On HK Island there's Queen Mary Hospital and in Kowloon there's
Queen Elizabeth and Prince of Wales

premies
If you suspect your child will be born prior to 34 weeks, any doctor here would tell you to go to Queen Mary. My twins were born at 32wks and spent 3wks in the NICU special care unit. I recommend you go visit the hospital and find out exactly what to expect. I didn't, hoping that the boys would stay put until 34wks, so I wound up at Q.M. not prepared. I didn't know any of the doctors, I didn't know I was supposed to bring my own long list of basics, etc. It would have been a much less traumatic experience for me if I had done my homework first. The babies received excellent care.

preemies
my wife gave birth to triplets at 26wks gestation. she was also at the queen mary and we were so impressed with the quality of health care and the incredibly supportive staff.
the babies were there for approximately three months.
the NICU is located on K10 and we cannot say enough good about it.
if you would like to contact us privately with any questions:

Hi, I wondered if I could continue on this thread to ask a related question. I'm moving to Hong Kong next week. I have a 7 month old son who was born at 27 weeks (so he is 4 months old 'corrected' age). I am wondering if anyone can recommend a pedeatrician with premmie experience that I can take Aidan to? He is still working through some of his NICU follow up, and is soon going to need screening for developmental milestones and want to make sure I take him to someone who knows what to look for.
Many thanks.

Hi Masseys - my son was in intensive care at queen mary (thank goodness for only 1 week that was bad enough). He was under the care of doc Barbara Lam who now has a private practice in central number is 2156 3888. It is expensive but she is excellent and has a lot of experience with premmies - she will probably refer you to specialists so maybe even ring first if you have a particular area of concern.

Just in case you live on the Kowloon side, I had my baby at 33 weeks at Queen Elizabeth. My baby stayed there for 15 days and they were excellent!
