Flourosis in HK
Anyone else having problems with white patchy discolouration of childrens teeth in HK ???? My son is only 3 and we have noticed white patchy discolouration on his front and eye teeth. We took him to the dentist and were told all was ok, but now he is getting brown staining at the top of one of his teeth. PS he doesn't have sippy cups, straight juice and he brushes with an electric toothbrush.

Does he drink from a bottle? It is recommended that children swap to an open cup at 12 months for every drink including milk. As the milk is still quite sugary, the prolonged sucking can cause discolouration. Also, putting your child to bed with a bottle is a huge no no. The reason is that when they fall asleep on a bottle, they are not producing saliva to help wash away the milk which then sits on their teeth all night. Over time this will lead to problems. Finally be aware that problems in baby teeth can lead to problems in adult teeth. Although the baby teeth will obviously fall out, it is the gums which remain and can cause problems for the adult teeth.I hope this helps.
