C section at Matilda or go back to Australia to give birth?
Hi there,
I'm new to Hong Kong and have just found out that I'm pregnant. The thought of flying back to Australia in my last trimester to give birth is a bit of a pain...but worth it if the hospitals in hong kong are not so great.
I was thinking of having a c section at the matilda hospital and using Doctor Philip Ho or Dr Dawkins. Would you recommend giving birth in Australia or have my baby at the Matilda. Is this a good hospital?

What are your fears about hospitals in HK?
Hospitals in HK, whether private or govt. offer fantastic medical care ( and a lot of the world's top specialists and surgeons are based in/ from HK).....!
The Matilda is a fantastic hospital.....both in terms of medical care and after care service. I don't see why it would differ from a private hospital in Australia. And I know it's certainly more comfortable than a NHS hospital in the UK!
But where you give birth is a personal decision.....!

I am asking out of pure curiosity, are you having a c/s out of personal preference or you need to have a c/s?

i had a emergency c last time so ive decided to have one again. i guess i just know what to expect in Australia and haven't lived in hong kong long enough to know the hospitals. i t would be a lot more convenient to have a baby in hong kong as we've just re located and the thought of going back home kind of feels like we're going backwards. I'm glad to hear positive feedback on hospitals here.
Has anyone had a c section at the Matilda hospital? If so, how was your experience. Which Obs did you use?

I had a c/s at the Matilda in Oct 2006....and had a great experience!
The nurses are fantastic...and I was given/offerred as much pain medication as I wanted, which was nice to know! I was terrified pre c/s but my anaethetist (Tay) and OB were fantastic (C.Chan).
As a pedietrician at the hospital I would recommend Dr. KN Chan. He's great.
I was able to start breastfeeding my son in the operating theatre and then had a very kind nurse who spent most of my first night there helping me with breastfeeding. The Matilda also has a lactation consultant who is great!
I had a semi private room but guests were not kept to any kind of waiting hrs....and so my husband came really early morning and stayed until late at night. The first night (My son was born just before midnight) they let me husband stay with us.....even though not technically allowed in semi priv room...and we really appreciated that.
It was just a great experience!

I'm also registered to deliver at the Matilda and am with Dr. Philip Ho. It's my first pregnancy so can't comment on the hospital part yet but I've been very satisfied with my choice of OB.
In all my dealings with Dr Ho so far, he has been very efficient and professional and I feel very confident in his care. The thing I really like about him is how well he/his office has scheduled his time. I've never had to wait more than 20 minutes or so for an appnt and his waiting room is never crowded (no more than 2-3 waiting moms/couples). If you need a doctor who gives a lot of feedback, then he may not be the right person but he definitely knows his stuff. (To be fair, I've had a very straightforward pregnancy so far so maybe there's nothing to really merit attention.)

Hes sounds pretty cool. I went in there this morning to see Philip Ho's office and pick up a price list. I might be using him.
When are you due?
