Amnio for twins?
I'm pregnant with twins and considering whether or not to do amnio. I heard it's a lot riskier to do it on twins. Has anyone done amnio on twins? if so, could you let me know which doctor you went to?

Are you beyond the 12th week already? There is an ultrasound test that can be performed during the 12th week that will give you an estimate on the potential of downs. If it comes back as an almost zero chance, you might skip the amnio.

Hi newbie, is there a particular reason why you would want to do an amnio?
I am also pregnant with twins (16wks) and did consider amnio for various reasons - but the risks do seem a lot higher (up to 5X more risk of miscarriage than amnio during a singleton pregnancy) so I decided against it. I made the decision after the 12wk ultrasound & bloodtest, which showed a low chance of Down Syndrome.
That said, if you really want to be sure, there are plenty of dr's here that regularly perform amnio's on twins so should be possible to find someone experienced if you wish (eg Dr Ghosh, Dr Doo)
Good luck! When are you due?

How would you vote if you were in my situation?
• Go for it, an amnio could free up a ton of space in your cramped uterus.
• No, amnios are risky and you don't even know what you're having yet.
