    Should Children Witness Childbirth ?

    Should children witness childbirth?

Due to a power outage, only one paramedic responded to the call. The house was very dark so the paramedic asked Katie, a 3-yr old girl, to hold a flashlight high over her mummy so he could see while he helped deliver the
baby.Very diligently, Katie did as she was asked. Mummy pushed and pushed and after a little while, Connor was born. The paramedic lifted him by his
little feet and spanked him on his bottom. Connor began to cry.

The paramedic then thanked Katie for her help and asked the wide-eyed 3-yr old what she thought about what she had just witnessed.

Katie quickly responded, 'He shouldn't have crawled in there in the first place......smack his bum again!'

He he he....that's a funny story!

Well, I just happen to be from an area with many farming and ranching communities and witnessing birthing is not thought to be weird at all.

Now, personally, I would never want my children in the room while I'm giving birth but I think it could be a wonderful opportunity, especially for young children to learn about reproduction (and it's consequences). :0)

personally, i wouldn't want my very young children to be present... i WOULD want my pre-teen to witness the repercussions of sex. nothing would teach them better than that! boys and girls!

I agree with Carang about older children being present to understand the repercussions of unprotected sex, the whole event would probably be a sobering experience, much less glam than baby showers and lots of presents!

btw I loved the story Neha! Thank you!

I was there when my sister was born - but I was 16!! It kinda freaked me out a bit, but I do think it somewhat "prepared" me a little too, definitely gave me a more realistic idea of what childbirth is and isn't!! I was old enough to "understand" though.
