Helpers leave - how to count start day?
dear all
just booking tickets for our helpers leave and have a few questions that i hope you can help me with!
1. she is renewing her contract with us so we are just signing the new one now (july 1). she used up 14 days during the previous contract and we paid for a ticket home and back for her so is that the end of our obligation under that contract?
2. she wants to now take all her next amount of leave (now 17 days as second contract) at the beginning of this contract. is this legally OK if we are ok with it?
3. if she goes ahead with this, then not counting sundays obviously, it will come to about 21 days out of hong kong. we will be away for part of it and manage for part of it. are her travel days counted as part of the annual leave or do we have to give her 2 extra days? it takes her a day to get there and a day to get back (as there is a connecting flight in manila).
would rather not have to give her the extra 2 days as it will be a long 21 days anyway but want to do the right thing
THANK YOU for your input everyone

Sorry, I've probably rambled on and that's why I'm not getting any replies!
OK: Quick Question
Helper is taking annual leave of 17 days. Should this include her travel days from HK to her home town in the Phils and back? Or is this an additional 2 days?
Thanks!

The travel time should not be additional, but part of the entire annual leave.
Where did the 17 days come from though?

Thanks for replying!
Well apparently when they renew a contract, they are entitled to 8 days in the first year and then 9 days in the second year.. so 17 days. This is what the immigration website re FDH says... has anyone experienced this?

Unless DH rules are different, I have never heard of employers giving travel days - time off is time off. It would be up to them to deal with the logistics of it.
