Public libraries for children?
Hello!
We recently moved to Hong Kong with two toddlers. Back home in California, we would often visit the local libraries and check out books to read together. I wonder if that's something parents do here as well and if so, are there particular libraries with particular good children's books or good for kids to visit.
We live in Mid-Levels.
Thanks so much in advance.

We use the public libraries all the time and they are all good. The one in Central (near Victoria Park) is probably the biggest (so the best), but the kids also enjoy going to the one in Shatin or Ma On Shan.

We do. Here's a list of Libraries.
Hong Kong Public Libraries - Locations and Opening Hours
The best libraries are in City Hall (old Star Ferry) and the Central Library in Causeway Bay. We also go to the ones in our area.
You need a proof of residence, to sign up for library card. More info here:

I take my kids to the central library in CWB once a week or so. They love it as the children's area is huge. And when swine flu hysteria has died down, hopefully the playroom will re-open, as it is free and my kids love it either before or after they have perused the bookshelves.
The library in Happy Valley (3/F., Wong Nai Chung Municipal Services Building, 2, Yuk Sau Street, Happy Valley, Hong Kong ) also has a really nice children's section, but is much smaller. Playroom here is also very good once it re-opens.

Thank you so much for the very useful information. I've taken a look and I'm thrilled the libraries have such nice children's sections...much better than back home.

I usually go to the City Hall library in Central. It's convenient as there are bus stop and minibus stop back to Mid levels just outside the building. Also, there is a multi-storey carpark, which is much more convenient if you drive.

I'm a huge fan of the public libraries here. What I like best about them is that you can search for books online and "reserve" them and once the books is in your local library, you can drop by to pick them up. If you have a book that they don't have, you can also put in a request for them to acquire it and if and when they do, they'll notify you once it's in. :)
