    Birthday Gifts

Can I get some advice from the experienced mums out there please? What sort of gift do you normally take along to a child's birthday party? My daughter is just about to turn one and we will be attending lots of parties for her little friends.... I would like to take a little something but with lots to go to there is a limit to what we can afford. What do other people do?

There's such a range, really... when my daughter turned one, the gifts we got ranged in expensiveness from homemade (which she loved!!) to probably $3-500ish (which I think is very generous!!). You know what your budget is, I think the best thing to do is just do what works for YOU and don't worry about what everyone else is going to spend. Personally I think I spent about $150ish, and I think that's probably about average (at least amongst our friends). But even less is still ok too... I know it gets really expensive, particularly when you multiply it by 10 or whatever!!

i sign up for the mattel sale email. when there is a sale, i head over and spend about $600-1000 and buy LOTS of stuff for boys and girls... then when a birthday comes round i've got a stock of toys etc already. you can save HUGE amounts of $$$!

last time i spent $680 and got 3 HUGE bags of toys: Dora the Explorer, Diego, Barbies, Hot Wheels, Cars, Elmo/sesame street, Pooh, etc. some of the things were regular $400 (barbies) and i only spent $75-100! some of the diego & dora toys were only $20-40 each!

might be worth a trip next time.
