I was advised against giving my little girl any added sugar or salt in her food till past the age of 2 years old. All her foods have natural sugars and salt in them. She's 16.5 months old and has never had candy, chocolate, juice or salt. The doctor said it's better for their kidneys if you wait a little longer. Besides, I don't see any nutritional value in giving my little girl chocolates or candies and I'm sure it will not take her long to acquire a taste for them.

Between 18 to 24 months... he just loves dark chocolate, much more than chocolate cakes or bars or sweets.

City Jammer - does that mean you don't let your baby eat any of your food and you don't give your baby any food to try when you eat out?

Our girls ate pretty much whatever we did from about 1 year old. Nothing spicy, but they did have an Easter Egg at Easter.

I think it's totally fine if you give a bit during their first birthday . . . don't worry about it as they're eventually going to have to eat it. i knew my son did not have a sweet tooth so we wanted to expose him little by little to some sweet foods so that when he wanted a bite of cupcake with frosting on it, he would not throw up from it (which happened at a birthday for a 2 year old when he was about 15 months old).
personally, i believe that everything in moderation is fine as long as there is no threat of an allergy etc....you have to go with your what your gut tells you as only you know your bub best.
