Antenatal checkups - midwife
Hello, I was wondering if anyone has experience with having their antenatal checkups by a midwife here in HK? I had this with my first back in Europe but I does not seem common in Hong Kong.
In any case, I think i have found a midwife who can do it, but I wonder if anyone can share their experiences?
Also, I would like to have a homebirth but am unsure about if this can be done, there are mixed stories about this?
Thanks,

Hi Fina, my understanding is that homebirths are frowned upon and possibly not legal here, it seems to be a grey area certainly. I heard some people have them either accidentally or 'accidentally' and it's quite a pain to register the birth afterwards - umm, that's just me repeating what I've heard, I don't know for sure. I don't think you'll find a midwife who would help you have a homebirth.
I'm not sure what you mean by antenatal checks by a midwife, as far as I know you either have to pick the public or private system - in the public system you get a certain number of checks at the hospital clinics (there's been a very useful thread on this very recently) or privately you see an OB/GYN and may also see a midwife as part of the same appointment. I know you can also see midwives at Annerley if you have any worries or questions, not sure if other places offer this service as well. Essentially you have to be part of one system or the other (public or private), I don't believe you sit outside it and only see midwives and have a homebirth.
That's my understanding of it anyway perhaps someone will be along with some more positive information for you!

Here's some info on homebirth from an old thread-
http://www.geobaby.com/forum/thread120510.html.
Apparently it can be done.

I can see an ad for Annerley midwives on this website itself that provides antenatal checkups. Seems reasonably priced - appears on the side of this thread.

I used Annerley Midewives for most of my anntenatal check ups with them...much better than going to the public check ups.
Also the price of Annerely's antenatal check ups is actually $350 now

May I ask what does the check up involve?

Oh really? I guess all of their prices went up then. When I went, Tamara checked the position of the baby, fetal heartrate, weight. Basically everything but the scan.
