Eye Examinations for children
I was wondering whether anyone has taken their children to get their eye formally examined by an optometrist? If so, are there any good recommendations? What is the best age for this?
I ask because sometimes I see my daughter looking at stuff out of the corner of her eye - but not very often. I think she has normal vision, but want to check for sure.
Appreciate any feedback.
Lisa

Hi
I took my son to the Duchess of Kent Children Hospital - they have specialist for eye and ear. Our physiotherapist said that he was slightly tilted with his head/neck and I also was worried about his left eye which eyeball not in the middle . But specialist said that most young children facial features have not been developed and with a low nose bridge sometimes the eyeball does not look centred. But they can check her retina to make sure it is not clouded and it can follow light properly . Eye patches are sometimes recommended to train the weakest eye.

Lisa, we used Dr. Christopher Yu several years ago for my son's eye exam, he was very gentle. My friend uses Polyvision for her two kids, and she is pleased with them as well, but I have no experience with them. Anyway take a look at the link below, perhaps it can provide some additional info.

I have not tried with my toddler, but Polyvision in Hopewell Center is well equipped. They have toys, info booklets for kids, and the doctors are very thorough when it comes to eye examinations and tests for adults (I have been going thier for over 5 years, they keep my hisotry and it is a great reference if sth is wrong). They have a sperate room for kids. I will certainly take my toddler for an eye check when she is 3.

My daughter goes to see Dr. Christopher Yu at the Premier Medical Center (7/F Central Building). He was able to detect her amblyopia at 12 months. Since then, she has gone for routine check-ups and started wearing glasses at 21 months. Her eye sight is improving in her left eye (her right eye is fine) but we still see him regularly. He's great with kids and we're lucky we caught it so early. The first check at 12 months was part of her vaccination package at PMC.
