Hospitals which allow rooming in/do not separate mother and baby

Hi. If you know me in real life you can ignore this post, I'll email you soon enough :)

I've just discovered I'm pregnant, but a few weeks too early for insurance purposes... Our best option maternity cover since I'm pregnant before we switch plans, including antenatal, is only 40k for vaginal delivery (which I had last time, so hoping all goes well again)

I know Matilda allows rooming in in private rooms, are there other less expensive hospitals that allow this? We may have to just cough up the cash but as I'm JUST pregnant I have a few weeks to figure this out. Would prefer not to spend quite so much out of pocket if we can avoid it.

If you have a hospital rec. Can you also recommend an OB who delivers there? Thanks!

    Thanks!

queen mary hospital allows the baby to be beside you as much or as little as you like, even in the ward room....

    total cost: less than $500

Oh really? I'd be at Pamela Youde, do you happen to know if they allow that as well?

I hear Pamela Youde is even better and you can get a more private room for less money. Look into it. There are some posts on here about Pamela Youde experiences! Pretty sure they would allow rooming in as they encourage it along with skin to skin contact and breastfeeding.

most likely as they are both public hospitals... but if in doubt, call them and ask if the baby can stay with the mummy if she chooses. also keep in mind that often they tell you one thing, but when the time comes, the reality may be more positive than they led you to believe when inquiring about stuff.

Matilda allows rooming in across ALL their wards. I was in a 4 bedder and bub was allowed to room in 24/7.
