19 month old sleep problems after moving
My 19 month old, who has always been a great sleeper, has suddenly started to wake up several times at night, crying and screaming until we either lie down next to him on a mattress on the floor (he will lie awake for ages checking to see if we have left) or we co-sleep with him in our bed (after about an hours' worth of poking us in the eye or patting us on the arm). He only has one nap of 2 hours in the afternoon.
I'd like to think it's because:
i) we moved house end of November
ii) we went back to Sydney for 2 weeks over Xmas and he got used to sharing a room with us during the time
iii) he has just recovered from a cold and fever after his chicken pox vax before CNY
Thing is, it's going on for longer than we had expected and it is heart breaking doing the CIO thing, even if it means popping into his room and comforting him every few minutes, which we have tried on and off for 2 months. I feel it's really traumatising to him and to us. I am organising to have his old animal curtains hung up again in the hope it will give him some sense of familiarity.
The other dilemma is I am about to deliver our second LO next week, and obviously having him in our room is less than ideal and would severely affect his quality of sleep as well.
Does anyone have any advice as to what we could do? My husband could sleep on the floor in his room but I worry this is going to start a bad habit of him being used to having someone in his room at night. He's been sleeping on his own since 9 months and has been such a good sleeper until now.
Do they go through a separation anxiety phase at this age?
Thanks, any advice is appreciated.
