Delivery at queen mary and Blood cord banking

Hello everyone! We found out that we're expecting and so happy to have found this group!

Does anyone know if there is any possibility for saving the blood cord cells if we deliver at Queen Mary?

As we were contemplating the public vs private decision, we were almost certain we would go the public route after visiting Queen Mary due to the cost and medical facilities available should that need arise. However, we were told that they do not participate with blood cord banking. I heard of cases where it was done before and would love to know how!

Make sure you're certain you really need blood banking -it's being touted as some miracle cure and the reality is far, far different.

Last I heard they would only collect it if you plan on donating it to the Red Cross.

Though you can't donate if you lived in britain in the 1980s or early 90s!

Thanks for your insight Aquarian and Rani.

Our Dr. (who is fantastic) agreed that the uses of cord blood / tissue is limited at this current stage. It's really an insurance that you hope never to use + banking on science to continue to develop over the years. Also very much a personal choice for each parent to consider with their medical history. We're still weighing it out and so far, we have not learned of a feasible route to save cord blood if we choose to if delivering at a public hospital.

We do appreciate your thoughts and thanks again!
