Hi,

Does anyone have experience with Kwiksure, Pacific Prime Insurance Brokers or DKV health insurance? We were looking for the best maternity plan and seems like DKV has a great one in terms of value for money. Kwiksure / Pacific Prime Insurance Brokers are the carriers for it. Anyone have experience with the any of the above?

Thanks!
T

We've got DKV, you're right the maternity package does seem to be the best. I've only claimed for vaccinations and physiotherapy for my son so far, they paid up no trouble on the vaccines but are asking for more info on the physio so watch this space.

I'd be interested to know if anyone else has DKV and what their experience has been claimswise.

I have Healthcare Intl after Rani recommended it previously. Thanks Rani!

My pregnancy and delivery costs (private room at the Adventist) were fully covered (after the excess). I think the cost is very competitive, although they could not arrange direct payment to the Adventist and I had to pay and then make a claim, and they were a bit slow on the reimbursement, taking almost 2 months to pay, but they did not dispute any charges. I am quite happy with them, given the price paid.

BTW, I purchased my insurance directly via Healthcare Intl's website.

thanks for the quick replies!!

jvn- did you get your insurance through an agent in hk? if so, which one? how do you file claims and how long does it take to get refunded?

rani- yes, it has unlimited maternity cover. thanks will check them out also!

lesliefu- 10k usd is about average from what i've seen, but since i'm looking at matilda and i know the costs are really high there, i was looking for better coverage.

I went through Kwiksure, Barney there was very helpful and provided an excellent spreadsheet listing all the benefits and premiums of the different policies available. Happy so send his email if you want it.

I scan in the invoices and forms and email them to claim as they are based in Germany, I think - I haven't had it long so haven't that much experience of the claims process, it's an 8 month waiting period for the Mat benefits to kick in so I thought I'd get it in plenty of time for planning the next one.

They were pretty quick to pay up for the standard vaccines, about 2 weeks I think.

I guess the physio is not so standard so they've just asked for some more info, which is fair enough, as I'd originally just sent them the invoice - I'm in the middle of getting that so I don't know how long they are going to take once I've sent it - I'll definitely let you know if they are difficult because I went for the top cover with no excess precisely as I didn't want any hassle with the claims!

Portia,

Thanks for the update! Glad that everything worked out. We're still with Healthcare too, but we haven't put in a claim yet.

HKExpat - Healthcare's maternity coverage is US$25K and 100% in case of complications

I am with DKV and my only out of pocket expense for my entire pregnancy including private room at Matilda was $250 for my meal which I ordered while I was in labour. Still don't really understand why I had to pay for that but am not complaining! Since then all my baby's expenses including vaccines have been reimbursed. For things like physio they need referrals and if you have treatment for a long time they may ask for the referral to be refreshed. The only expense I have not received full reimbursement on is dental. My insurance plan is arranged by my employer though so am not sure if this coverage is generally available or what the cost is though (can only imagine it is expensive).

Thanks StareBear, that's really good to know about the maternity claims.

They asked me for a 'full medical report on this medical condition' on the physio so I'm getting back to them to find out if they mean referral, don't want to waste time getting the wrong thing!

thanks, rani!

jvn- so you work directly with the insurance company to file the claims? i thought when you go through an agent, they normally take care of them.

hkexpat2010,

I signed with DKV in March. They have FULL maternity coverage (with the exception of an elective cesarean) and only an 8 month waiting period! They have full dental coverage as well.

We checked out a few companies and this one was by far the best for us. It is about $2,500 USD for the year but when you consider the high cost to go private, this is very reasonable. I have already made 2 claims (pap test and chicken pox vaccination) and I received full reimbursement within 3 weeks.

My husband and I are going to start trying this summer. If we do get pregnant then we will have to pay for the first few appointments but after the waiting period (Nov.) everything will be covered.

capergirl- thanks for the info! did you use the agency kwiksure or go direct to dkv?

my quote for dkv was around 7,000usd from kwiksure! but maybe we have a big age difference. i'm 33. do you mind if i ask how old you are?

thanks for sharing your info! good luck!

hkexpat2010 - just for comparison purposes, I pay around USD1700 with Healthcare Intl with a USD1000 deductible and I am in the 41-45 age bracket. I have the Premium package which covers routine maternity costs up to USD25K and 100% of complications. Should be even cheaper if you are as young as 33!

Yes it is, I think we pay somewhere in the region of 3.5k USD with no excess but then I'm old too :-)

hkexpat2010,
I went through PrimePacific/Kwiksure. I spoke with a representative on the phone and he sent me some quotations and thought that DKV would be a good company for me (I was looking for full maternity coverage). I can send you the representative contact info if you'd like.

I chose the Top plan and the insurance only covers me. My husband has BASIC health insurance with Bupa through his company.

Hope this helps,
I forgot to mention that I am 31.
