Hi All,

Please can anyonre share the recent costs of a normal delivery for a shared room at matilda.
theere wesbite says that it will be 40k hk$ for a 3 day package but it does not include the dr. fees, obs, anaes, etc fees.

Please can someone share the additional cost of matilda + dr. ghosh fees if you have gone through this recently

my insurance pays around 50k so i am just trying to calculate how much I will have to chip in myself

many thanks!

so does this work out as:

Hospital package = 40k
Dr. Ghosh = 35k (assuming there is not need for caeserian/intrumental delivery)

=75k

now she mentions Anaesthetists and Paediatricians

so the above cost does not include paedtrician & Anaesthetists fees?

does that mean i need to add on another 15k + 15k to the delivery costs?

so its more like 105k? i am a little puzzled here

That sounds about right.

Double check your insurance on the pediatrician. That should be covered separate and apart from your delivery charges. That's how mine worked and we just asked them to print us a separate bill for it.

Remember that not everybody winds up using an anaesthetist so they aren't necessarily a standard part of the hospital package.

rs2000, i would prepare 2 estimates for cost: 1 is your expected outcome and the other is for the unplanned outcome. no one goes into the hospital expecting an emergency c-section and all the additional costs that come with it (not just the hospital package but doctor's fees, anesthesiology, etc) -- i certainly did not. just so you have an idea of the range.

also, i am not sure about this but you may have to pay for the anesthesiologist whether you plan to use one or not, as if anesthesiology is needed in an emergency, someone must be standing by. good luck!

one more thing: i think the charge for an ultrasound is about $1,000 per scan. i don't know how many dr ghosh performs in a typical pregnancy b/c i have been hi-risk and have one at every appointment

Ask Dr Ghosh for his package. Explain you have limited cover and he can give you a price for your visits, basic blood tests and then cost of delivery (C-section is higher than natural). For pediatrician, he normally uses Dr Thondup but he is one of the most expensive. If he is willing, ask if you can use another and then call Matilda to find out the prices. This holds true for the anesthetist as well. They don't like giving out prices which is crazy as we pay and it varies A LOT. Also be aware all prices go up with the type of room you have. So if you in the 6 bed it is a lot cheaper than a private room.

If your baby has insurance the paediatrician fees can be claimed under his/her insurance. Double check if the paediatrician your Dr uses is covered by your insurance provider and if not you can find one that is..the one you'll be taking him to for vaccinations and illness.

I think that anyone planning on having an epidural will require an anesthesiologist, as they are the ones that insert the needle, etc.....so depends on your birthplan, etc. The system over here is soooo different than in the US. When I got my first bill from first visit with Dr. Ghosh, it was just this old fashioned looking receipt that they said i could submit to insurance. In the states you need diagnosis codes, cpt codes, etc. I am curious how it will all wash out. But let's just keep our eyes on the prize, the little one is worth it. :) But they do make it very hard to budget and plan.
