doctor for baby

I am wondering what options there are for checkups for baby, and also for immunizations. I was assigned a pediatrician at the hospital, but if baby isn't sick, a specialist is not necessary is it?

we use the local GP, not a specialist, pediatrician or anything fancy. If our child is ill we just pop down to the Dr and wait to see him, easy and cheap. He's also done all our vaccinations and phoned to remind me when one was due!

We took baby to the Govt "Well Baby" clinic for her vaccinations. http://www.dh.gov.hk/clinictimetable/mchc.htm There is a list of scheduled vaccinations and the nurses there also do quick developmental checks. First visit was longer because bub also had to see the paediatrician on duty. Subsequent visits were done within 1 hour. It is a busy place but the nurses are friendly and helpful (at least, in our experience). The clinics are only for healthy babies.

For additional vaccinations (eg rotavirus and chickenpox) we took her to the GP. We normally take her to the GP if she is unwell. The GP also happens to be a paediatrician, but bub has not had anything complicated, beyond a cold, cough or tummy upset (touch wood).

I was assigned a paed after giving birth at the Mathilda. Our baby was not on insurance yet for the first apt and I wad horrified at the cost. I decided to try the govt clinic and it was a really good experience. We got more attention there than at the paed and it was free! I subsequently saw another paed and he, himself recommended going to the govt clinics...

We usually only go to the govt clinics as well and will only go to the GP if we need anything. We went to a Ped a couple times, but it's double the cost and we don't have insurance for that.
