I was induced at 41 weeks, although they would have waited if I wanted. My cervix was not yet ready, so the first step was the prostaglandin suppository. For some women, that is enough to kickstart labour. At this stage, I was in the labour ward and my husband had to abide by visiting hours. I was free to leave the ward thpugh so we could be together if we wanted.
When your cervix is ready, if your contractions have not yet started up properly, they'll start you on pitocin. To have pitocin, you will be moved to the delivery ward and your husband can be with you the entire time from then on. I did find that with the pitocin, I was more bed-bound than I wanted to be. With both of my deliveries at QMH, I was given pitocin and because I couldn't get comfortable, I also chose to have an epidural. I asked for it early. Both of my labours and deliveries went smoothly.
